Located in the heart of Florence in the area called “Oltrarno” (similar to the famous Trastevere in Rome or Rive Gauche in Paris) and to the most typical districts of the city center, that of San Frediano.
The remains of the ancient fortified walls that enclose the old city are only 300m from the house. Despite the central location, our Guest House is quiet and peaceful, away from the chaos of traffic (and just outside the ZTL, it overlooks a typical and ancient little, uphill road of the old Florence, adjacent to the historical park of Villa Strozzi al Boschetto.
With a short walk, you will arrive in Piazza di Bellosguardo, where you can enjoy one of the most fantastic views of the city and the surrounding countryside.
The house was once used as a restoration laboratory for the recovery of important works of art now exhibited at the Uffizi Gallery; the interiors still have the charm of the old Florentine houses of the past, and have been completely and carefully restored by Tiziana, the owner's wife, who is a landscape architect and interior designer. All rooms are individually decorated with antiques; for your added comfort, Il Palagetto is a non-smoking guest house.
The house still retains its artistic vocation and shows several fine wood carvings by Mugellan artist Luca Mommarelli www.lucamommarelli.com.
The railway station of Santa Maria Novella is only a 15 minute walk from the house (10 minutes by bus, a few minutes by taxi), from which you can easily reach all the most important monuments of the city with a pleasant, short walk away.
The fashion fair grounds (Fortezza da Basso & Stazione Leopolda) are easily reached within minutes by car or taxi from Palagetto. The new “Opera House” of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is located not far from the house.
A private enclosed parking area is offered for exclusive use of our Guests.
